Slackline

I have a new obsession. It's called slacklining. Some of you may have heard me talking about this new found passion of mine. I'll spare you the details but it's pretty much like walking a tight rope low to the ground, or high to the ground as illustrated in this trailer for a feature length doc shot on the topic. Anywho, here are a couple of pictures of me slacklining shot by some good friends of mine. Also, here's a picture a nice lady shot of me while I was shooting a lacrosse game....while I'm being vain. I wasn't really as pissed about shooting as I look. In fact, I was in a pretty damn good mood because I was also listening to Bon Iver. If you've not heard of this band, it's time to giddy up and listen.

Some sports for your face.

How about a gander at some sports? There's not much for me to say other than this is a collection from over the last week or so.

Pepper Sire?

I tried uploading this last week but blogger was being lame. This poor kid was walking down the street with two of his friends when a kid walking in the opposite direction walked past him and called him a "cracker". Now, people call me cracker all of the time, largely because I am, for all intents and purposes, a cracker. For some reason, this simple "derogatory" term upset this young man and forced him to turn around to confront the to-be assailant when the kid dumps a whole can of pepper spray in the other guy's eyes. Ouch right?

I Survived My First Layoff

So yeah, we lost 20 people from the company last week. I can't help but be worried for my own job. I feel like I should have been the first one let go instead of the wealth of talent and people who had dedicated their lives, some as many as 20 years, to this news organization. Anyway, they will all be missed, even though I didn't know the majority of them.

I'm working on a project about how shitty the economy is in Nashua. This is a perfect example of how crappy things are. Each of these cats used to have homes, good ones too. That is until their respective owners fell on hard times and couldn't pay the mortgage or the rent anymore, so they got evicted or there home's been repo'd and foreclosed. The local Humane Society took in more cats last month than they ever had over the course of one month previously.

Personally I hate cats. They make me itch like nothing else. But the stories that these cats could tell if they could talk is what makes me interested in them more than anything. They were shy, and some were even maltempered but who could blame them. They lost more than most people lose in their lives in a single, unfortunate incident. Each of them represents a tremendous story to me.
