A New Search
Thursday began something new in me. A perpetual motion if you will... As many of you know, my weekends are a little bit, well, untraditional. Wednesday and Thursday are my Saturday and Sunday which gives me some time to myself. At first, I didn't like this idea at all. As time progresses though, I've begun to feel more comfortable with the silence that saturates my time away from the office. It's a time of solitude away from the ringing phones, deadlines, and police scanner. I've never been one for quite as my parents can attest.
Thursday I went to the park and set up a slackline and spent some time alone working on the fine art of balance. Suddenly I realized that what I was doing was far more than walking on a 1 inch piece of webbing. I was performing a metaphor (this already sounds pretty hippy). Life is a balance. It's difficult to see a five day work week and two day weekend as something that can balance but it does somehow. I find more and more that this life is one of balance and congruence. I've figured out how to make that balance work, at least in my line of work...for me. The weekend is a time for me to take a step back and forget about the fires, car wrecks, and subsequent sometimes boring assignments that come with working at a daily newspaper and give thanks for what I have that can't be taken away from me. Nature, the sun, family, LOVE.
So after the awakening of my weekend I came back to work yesterday and simply continued giving thanks for the things that can't be taken away. Here are a couple of pictures.
