I Survived My First Layoff

So yeah, we lost 20 people from the company last week. I can't help but be worried for my own job. I feel like I should have been the first one let go instead of the wealth of talent and people who had dedicated their lives, some as many as 20 years, to this news organization. Anyway, they will all be missed, even though I didn't know the majority of them.

I'm working on a project about how shitty the economy is in Nashua. This is a perfect example of how crappy things are. Each of these cats used to have homes, good ones too. That is until their respective owners fell on hard times and couldn't pay the mortgage or the rent anymore, so they got evicted or there home's been repo'd and foreclosed. The local Humane Society took in more cats last month than they ever had over the course of one month previously.

Personally I hate cats. They make me itch like nothing else. But the stories that these cats could tell if they could talk is what makes me interested in them more than anything. They were shy, and some were even maltempered but who could blame them. They lost more than most people lose in their lives in a single, unfortunate incident. Each of them represents a tremendous story to me.
